Two people, a Taylorsville man and a Wilkesboro woman, have been charged in connection with three deaths, according to the Alexander County Sheriff's Office. Two bodies were recovered in a Saturday night fire in Taylorsville. On Monday, emergency workers searched the Catawba River and in Catawba County's Riverbend Park for a third body.
Heidi Darlene Wolfe, 16, of Wilkesboro, and Areli Aguirre Avilez, 30, of Taylorsville, are charged with three counts of first-degree murder, according to a release from the Alexander County Sheriff's Office. Wolfe and Avilez are being held without bond.
The release said the duo is charged in connection with a mobile home fire on Pine Meadows Lane on Saturday, where two bodies were discovered once the fire was extinguished.
There was also an ongoing body recovery investigation at Riverbend Park Monday on the Catawba River on Highway 16, according to the sheriff's office release. The park is closed and members of the Alexander Rescue Squad and EMS could be seen searching the Catawba River near the park.
The two bodies recovered in the fire were in different rooms of the home. The victims were burned beyond recognition, the release stated.
