The Hickory Post 48 Junior Legion fastpitch softball team split a doubleheader with Burke County Post 21 Wednesday. Hickory lost the opening game 5-1 but rallied for the split with an 8-1 victory in the second game.
Sydney Kale, Jada Spake, Addie Goble and Caroline McIntosh each had two hits each for Hickory and McIntosh had one RBI in the loss.
In game two, Mayson Lail pitched three innings and gave up no hits. Lail also had two hits and three RBIs. Spake, Laura Drum, Kaula Ruff, Trinity Atwell and Riley Fox each had one RBI in the win.
Hickory will face Wilkes County Post 31 next at West Wilkes High school on July 8 at 7 p.m.
Two games were rescheduled. Hickory vs. Watauga scheduled for July 10 will now take place on July 24. Hickory vs. McDowell scheduled for July 22 will now take place on July 15.
Maiden Legion Post 240 baseball team wins second straight game
Maiden Post 240 had no errors and seven hits to defeat Lincoln Post 455 3-2 on Wednesday.
Jay Sipe had two singles and Mac Beam had a single and an RBI for Maiden. Jacob Cauble pitches five innings and allowed two runs and struck out three. Elijah Carr pitched the final two innings. He allowed no runs and struck out three
Maiden will play their final two games of the season on the road. They will face Pineville Post 337 on Friday and then Union County on Saturday.
