The South Caldwell baseball team was held to just one hit Friday night in an 8-0 home loss to Ronald Reagan in the fourth round of the NCHSAA 4A state tournament.

Curtis Massagee’s single and Hunter Ingle’s walk were the only two baserunners allowed by Raiders pitcher Will Rice, who pitched a complete game and struck out nine. The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Ronald Reagan (21-5) plated its first two runs. The visitors scored three more in the fifth, two in the sixth and a final run in the seventh.

Clay Canale pitched 4.1 innings for South Caldwell, allowing five runs (two earned) and four hits. The Spartans end the year with a 22-6 record.


North Lincoln 7, North Davidson 0

Seth Whitley pitched a complete-game shutout Friday night to secure North Lincoln’s 7-0 victory over visiting North Davidson in the fourth round of the NCHSAA 2A state playoffs. The Knights (22-5) scored four runs in the first inning, added two more in the fourth and finished the scoring with a run in the sixth.

West Lincoln 4, Oak Grove 3

West Lincoln made four runs in the first inning stand up for a 4-3 win Friday against visiting Oak Grove in the fourth round of the NCHSAA 2A state playoffs. With the victory, the Rebels (21-7) will play rival North Lincoln in the best-of-three regional final series next week.
