Don Coleman’s dedication to our community and to the arts deserves more thanks than we can give.
He taught at Hickory High during integration and brought dignity and value to the music department. His skill at training at-risk students introduced beginners to precision, expression, and pride in performance.
Much too soon, he moved on to industry, but found new ways to uplift citizens with the glories of song. A master of the best in choral works, he presented annual programs free of charge to all comers. His devotion to local people and their edification incorporated exemplary melody that enhanced the humanity in us all.
God bless you, maestro. You are the rare teacher of the masses.
