NEWTON Wilma Norwood Moose, 94, of Newton, passed away peacefully at home, Thursday, July 4, 2019. She was born May 23, 1925, in Belmont, and was the first of seven children to the late George M. and Mable Thompson Norwood. Wilma grew up in the Maiden area and was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden, where she was baptized. She attended Balls Creek School where she met and later married Earl Robert Moose Jr., July 9, 1944. She became a confirmed member of his home church, Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton and was active in LWML, Alter Guild, Ladies Aid and served as a Sunday school teacher. She also made many church banners and the Advent wreath and flower arrangements for the church. During her young married life, she was diagnosed with cancer and after radical treatment became a cancer survivor for 62 years. She worked at Rhynes Hardware in Newton and Stitch Inc while her husband, Earl started Pem-Kay Furniture Co. Wilma enjoyed sewing for her three daughters, flower arranging, calligraphy, gardening and taking care of her family- especially Earl. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Earl R. Moose; her daughter, Wanda McAlister; sister, Murielene Reece; and brothers, Carl Lee and Lawrence Norwood. Surviving are her daughters, Tollie Stowe and husband, Bill, Susan Sigmon and husband, Joe; three grandchildren, Marc and Matthew Stowe and Jessica Little and husband, Jared; two great-granddaughters, Caroline Stowe and Eleanor Little; two sisters, Makie Quillen and Debbie Norwood; and one brother, Ben Norwood. She was lovingly cared for by Janet, Gail, Debbie and Marjorie at home during her illness. The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 7, at 3 p.m., at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton with Pastor Ralph Abernethy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 2:45 p.m., at the church, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2103 Mt.
