HICKORY Sharon Chandler Lanning, 57, of Hickory passed away Friday, July 12, 2019, at her residence. She was born Sept. 14, 1961, in Milton, Fla., to George Lane Chandler Sr. and the late Helen Walsh Chandler. Sharon took pride in being a Navy brat. She enjoyed camping, cooking, making crafts with her grandchildren, trips to the beach and decorating for Christmas. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 24 years, Lloyd Ray Lanning of the home; son, Dylan Lanning of Hickory; daughters, Kristie Lail of Hickory, Jennifer Simpson and fiancé, Jeremiah McNabb of Connelly Springs, Kelly Metcalf Wiseman and husband, Troy of Hickory, Kayla Lanning and fiancé, Kamar Swayne of Hickory; father, George Lane Chandler Sr. and wife, Amelia, of Jackson, Tenn.; brother, George Lane Chandler Jr. and wife, Carla, of Icard; sister, Angela Abernethy and husband, Tommy, of Maiden; grandchildren, Mandi Whaley, Joshua Whaley, Chelsea Walters, Jasmine Simpson, Jailei Simpson, Jeremy McNabb, Kirsten Thorneburg, Lily Wiseman, Mackinzie Wiseman and Tateum Wiseman; great-grandchildren, Adam Foster and Elise Foster. A service to celebrate Sharon's life will be held Sunday, July 14, at 3 p.m., at East Maiden Baptist Church in Maiden. The Rev. Nathaniel Austin will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 2:45 p.m., at East Maiden Baptist Church, prior to the service.
