LAKE ALFRED, Fla. William "Bill" Lee Boyd, 69, of Lake Alfred, Fla., previously of Statesville, passed away June 4, 2019, at his home. Born Jan. 8, 1950, in Newton, Kan., Bill was the son of the late Lewis Carroll Boyd and Virginia Lee Boyd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Boyd Jr.; and sister, Jane Boyd Owczarzak. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Rhonda Jean Clayton Boyd of the home; and daughter, Mary Elizabeth Boyd of Clearwater, Fla. Bill graduated from Highpoint University with a BA in computer information systems after serving in the U.S. Army for 21 years, more than nine of which were spent in Germany. Along with his love for his country and his support of veteran causes, Bill was a master craftsman as he was an award-winning quilter. He also treasured thunderstorms, especially in the Kansas skies, his precious dog, Regis, and of course his beautiful family. Bill's favorite hobby was performing on stage beginning in high school, college, and later with Davidson Community Players, Warehouse Performing Arts, Charlotte Mystery Theatre, Ensemble Stage in Blowing Rock, Foothills Performing Arts, the improv troupes, We Are The Foxes and Social Insecurity, and most recently at Hickory Community Theatre. Bill Boyd was quite a character, onstage and off. There was not a role that he didn't play to its fullest, commanding not only life but also the stage with a forceful presence. From a Shakespearean King to a loyal dog named Harold, to a yard sale connoisseur, Bill played every role with truthfulness, unbridled passion, and comic genius... and that is the way he lived his life. A celebration and appreciation of the life of Bill Boyd will be held Sunday, July 14, at 2:30 p.m., at the Hickory Community Theatre. There will be love, laughter, music, memories and a little improv a show that will be so "Bill." Memorials for Bill Boyd may be made to the Hickory Community Theatre, 30 3rd St NW, Hickory, NC 28601.
