Three men from Lenoir were arrested on drug trafficking charges in Conover last week, according to a Thursday press release from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 2 a.m. on May 29, a Catawba County deputy conducted a traffic stop for a lane change violation on N.C. 16 and Thornburg Drive in Conover.

During a consensual search of a 1997 green Toyota Corolla, the deputy found a loaded 9mm handgun, 28.6 grams of cocaine, 42 grams of marijuana, 7.2 grams of opiates consisting of hydrocodone and oxycodone. Ativan and Valium were also located, according to the release.

Tyler Wade Nichols, 24, was charged with trafficking opium or heroin, trafficking cocaine, possession of firearm by felon, possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and simple possession of a controlled substance. He was the driver of the vehicle, the release states.

Josue Romero Martinez, 26, and James Wilson Scarborough III, 41, were both charged with trafficking opium or heroin, trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and simple possession of a controlled substance, according to the release.

Martinez and Scarborough were both issued $150,000 bonds. Nichols was not issued a bond.
