HICKORY— Sheriff candidate and former Catawba County Sheriff’s Office captain Jason Reid held a press conference Monday afternoon responding to a search warrant that was unsealed on May 4.
“I had nothing to do with the search warrant being sealed,” he said. The search warrant was executed by the State Bureau of Investigation on the Sheriff’s Office and Narcotics Unit on April 19. Reid is under investigation for stalking, cyberstalking and willfully failing to discharge duties. A 25-year-old woman Reid was in a relationship with last year is accusing him of placing a tracking device on her car and stalking her.
Reid said he ended his relationship with the woman in March 2017 when he was in the hospital. Reid claims the woman was upset that he put his ex-wife in charge of his affairs and that the woman began driving by his house so much that a deputy was placed in the driveway of his home.
“This entire situation is a political attack,” Reid said. He also claims the woman had access to tracking devices from the main area of his workplace at the sheriff’s office when she came to visit him at work last August.
Don Brown, Reid’s opponent, was indirectly mentioned in the conference.
“My opponent has made his campaign all about personal attacks on me,” Reid said. “He has never questioned my record and my success or my Protect Our Future plan.”
The Hickory Daily Record reached out to Don Brown for comment but he did not respond by press time. “I’m in it to win it,” Reid said. “I’m in this race to protect our future here in Catawba County.” The full video of the press conference is available online at facebook.com/Hickory.Daily.Record
