BOONE — The Hickory Post 48 junior legion softball team dominated both games of a road doubleheader against Watauga Post 130 on Wednesday night. Following a 7-0 victory in Game 1, Post 48 earned a 4-0 win in Game 2 to hold Watauga scoreless for all 10 innings at Watauga High School.

Laura Drum was the winning pitcher for Hickory (7-7) in the opening contest, as she allowed two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in a complete-game performance. She also had two hits at the plate, as did teammate Addie Goble.

In addition to Goble’s three RBIs and Laura Drum’s two-RBI effort, Post 48 received one RBI apiece from Trinity Atwell and Caroline Drum. Jada Spake and Laura Drum each scored twice, while Abby Puett, Caroline McIntosh and Goble scored one run apiece.

In the nightcap, Spake threw five scoreless innings, surrendering one hit while striking out eight and issuing two walks. She added two hits on offense to go with two hits from McIntosh.

Also recording hits for Post 48 were Puett, Laura Drum, Goble, Peyton Wesson and Caroline Drum with one each. Goble had two RBIs and McIntosh and Spake finished with one RBI each, with McIntosh, Spake, Laura Drum and Caroline Drum each crossing the plate.

Hickory ends the regular season with a home doubleheader against McDowell Post 56 next Wednesday at Bandys High School. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
