The Hibriten Basketball Camp was hosted from June 17 to June 20 at Hibriten High School. Notable faces with NBA pedigrees who attended including Keith "Mister" Jennings and Dave Hanners.


Sports and Fitness Summer Camp

Registration for the Sports and Fitness Summer Camp at Hickory Parks and Recreation is now open to boys and girls ages 9 to 14.

The camp will be held from June 24 to 28. Activities include basketball, soccer, gymnastics and swimming.

The cost is $60 for Hickory residents and $75 for non-residents.

Car Wash to be hosted in support for Special Olympics

Broome Associates is sponsoring a car wash to be held at PDQ Restaurant in Hickory on June 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All proceeds will be donated to the Catawba County Special Olympics to utilize for upcoming sports and events.

Last year the car wash raised $1,051.13 and the Catawba County Special Olympics hopes to double or triple that amount. 

Newton Football Skills Clinic

Newton Parks and Recreation will host a football skills clinic on July 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Westside/Jaycee Park for boys and girls aged from 4 to 12.

Participants will learn football fundamentals and coordination skills across several stations set up according to ages.

All participants will receive a t-shirt and a lunch.

A $5 donation is suggested from participants.

Newton Parks and Recreation Department and Catawba County Hornets participation waivers are required and are available at the Newton Recreation Center.
