Welcome back to Crawdads Corner! The Crawdads have started the second half strong, taking the first series three games to one against the Charleston RiverDogs. While the team has kept things on the field exciting all year, the Dads front office has been hard at work planning promotions and giveaways that are sure to thrill fans of all ages. This week we wanted to spotlight a few of the things we have on tap for the season’s final 30 home games.
The Crawdads will light up the sky three times next week with post-game firework shows. The shows start next July 2, as L.P. Frans will play host to a matchup between the USA National Collegiate Team and the Cuban National Team. The game will be just the second time that Team USA has played in Hickory and the first that the Cuban team has come to town. Two days later, the Crawdads will host their Independence Day Extravaganza and will cap it off with the biggest fireworks show of the year. Of course, you can’t have a Friday at the ballpark without fireworks, so the Dads will once again end the night with a bang on July 5. On Friday, the Crawdads will also be celebrating all things 1980s and fans who break out their neon legwarmers or other themed apparel can get a discounted $6 ticket.
On July 27, Micah Tyler will perform a post-game Christian concert. The game will begin at 5 p.m. and the concert will begin immediately following the game. Micah Tyler made a splash in the industry with his Christian pop album "Different" in November 2016. The album earned Tyler a nomination for New Artist of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards.
The Llamas de Hickory will make three more appearances this season. On July 17, the Dads will wear their Llamas jerseys and fans can sign up to participate in a Wine and Design event on the picnic deck to paint llamas drinking wine while, of course, drinking wine. The Llamas will return on August 8, which is also the Battle of the Bags, our annual cornhole tournament. Llamapalooza will conclude on August 25. Fans will have the opportunity to decorate sugar skulls during the game. During all three Llamas games, the ‘Dads will offer cultural food options in the concession stands such as elote, which is a Mexican corn dish.
The season will wrap up on Labor Day weekend and we have a jam-packed final four games planned. Friday evening is Wizard night so get to the stadium early to find out which house you belong to. On Saturday, the Dads will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the classic baseball movie, “Field of Dreams.” Unfortunately, we won’t be able to grow corn in the outfield. Don’t worry, the Crawdads will have plenty of other nods to the movie throughout the night. The Dads are teaming up with Hickory Jaycees for our annual Bases and Brews event so be sure to get your ticket for the craft beer festival taking place in the stadium. The first 500 fans to the stadium on Saturday will also get a Lenoir-Rhyne themed Crawdads hat. The weekend continues Sunday with Bark in the Park where fans can bring their dogs for free. The Crawdads will also be starting the countdown to 2020 with a New Year’s celebration. The season’s final game will be a Labor Day matinee and we will be giving away prizes throughout the game. The Dads will also be auctioning off the alternate blue jerseys during the game so check the Live Source App to place your bid to take one home.
We will see you at the stadium soon! Go Dads!
