Catawba County Schools will be closed Monday due to weekend rains that brought flooding throughout Catawba County, according to a post on Catawba County Schools’ social media.
Some schools have standing water inside and many roads are closed, the post said.
Monday is an optional teacher workday for teachers for those who feel it is safe to travel. The school day will not need to be made up and exams will continue on Tuesday.
Newton-Conover City Schools will be on a two-hour delay, according to John Robinson, public information officer for Newton-Conover City Schools.
No decision about Hickory Public Schools was released Sunday.
The National Weather Service reported nearly 5 inches of rain fell on Hickory on Saturday and Sunday as of 5 p.m. Sunday.
