CONNELLY SPRINGS — The identity of a man charged after two women were found shot has been released.
Tykevious Owan Thomas, 27, of 3793 Bessie Willis Lane in Vale, was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury after two women were found shot in southern Burke County on Sunday morning, according to a release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to 6453 Lost Key Drive after a man called 911 at around 7 a.m. and told Catawba County dispatchers that a house had just been broken into, the release said. While the dispatchers were on the phone with the caller, they heard numerous gunshots in the background.
When deputies arrived on scene, two females were found with gunshot wounds, the release said. One of them had serious injuries, said Sheriff Steve Whisenant. Their identities have not been released.
At around 8 a.m., investigators were advised that Thomas had turned himself in at Hickory Police Department for his involvement in the shooting, the release said.
Thomas is being held at Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $500,000 secured bond, the release said. He has a court date set for Monday.
The shooting still is under investigation and more charges are expected, the release said.
The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Hickory Police Department and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation all are involved in the investigation along with BCSO.
