Conover shooting

ROBERT C. REED/HICKORY DAILY RECORD: Conover police search for evidence at a shooting scene on Second Street SW Friday morning.

Conover police are seeking a person of interest connected to Friday morning’s shooting on Second Street SW.

Kenneth Hines, 47, of Charlotte fled the scene of the Conover shooting in a black 1996 Chevrolet Suburban with front-end damage, according to Conover Police Chief Eric Loftin.

“We are investigating the incident and do not have any charges on him,” Loftin said.

Hines and the 30-year-old victim, Johnnie Lail, were involved in a domestic altercation that morning, which led to Lail being shot, a Conover police release stated. Lail was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning, according to Loftin.

Those with information about the shooting should call the Conover Police Department at 828-464-4698.
