Logan Bean, Joseph Hess Jr. and Daniel Patterson were recognized for their accomplishments and given one last piece of advice from Shannon Clemons, principal of Catawba Rosenwald Education Center.

“Don’t stop,” Clemons said. “Allow this accomplishment to be a stepping stone to more. You are not finished. You are just getting started.”

Pastor Derek Cline of St. Paul United Methodist spoke during the ceremony.

“You are not your circumstances and you are not what the world says you are,” Cline said. “Life will throw you challenges and as you walk through this life you will know who you are and your identity.”

Hess was also awarded the Belinda Shuford Award recognizing him for his unselfish acts and initiative.

“When you speak with our staff, they will tell you this young man is very down to earth and has a great sense of humor,” Kelly Mozagala, school social worker at Catawba Rosenwald, said. “A kind-hearted and unselfish young man, he was always willing to help others.”

The school hosted a reception following the ceremony for the graduates and their families.
