Residents recover from flooding on Lookout Shoals Lake

CLAREMONT N.C. – Piers remain underwater and backyards are still flooded at some lakefront homes along Lookout Shoals Lake. Rains led to flooding on Monday, but the water has since receded enough for homeowners to begin repairing their damaged property.

“It’s just totally unnecessary. Duke Power just dropped the ball,” said Ron Steelmon, 67, of Newton. “Everybody knew it was raining for about a week in the mountains. They should have done something.”
