NEWTON, N.C. — Loyd Hoke, local author and former educator, will share his new book, “A Rock for Ambrose,” during a public presentation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Main Library in Newton. The public is invited to attend.

Hoke, a native of Catawba County, penned the story of his great-great-grandfather, Ambrose Hoke, who died during the War Between the States while serving in the Confederate Army in North Carolina. Using family letters, legal documents and his own gut instincts, the author discovered where Ambrose likely died. His story is heart-wrenching, one of deprivation, sickness and fear, but also one of great love.
