Church production brings biblical story to life

CONOVER, N.C. — For 17 years, Tri-City Baptist Church has done Christmas dramatically different than most churches in the area. They stage a play called “Promise” that involves more than 200 members of their congregation, along with live sheep, goats, horses and a scene-stealing albino python.

“We portray the biblical story from creation to the Ascension to show why Jesus had to come into our world,” said Rhea Pettis, Tri-City’s musical director. “The musical drama includes a lot of interaction with each audience. Cast members come down the aisles and allow many ticket holders to see characters up close and personal.
