Hickory Community Theatre announces Kay Award recipients

HICKORY, N.C. — Hickory Community Theatre’s 2013 Kay Awards ceremonies were held Aug. 31 in the SALT Block auditorium. Beginning with emcees from HCT’s upcoming musical “Spamalot,” Patsy (Steve Austin) and King Arthur (William E, Morgan) the evening bounced along merrily with sketches and songs from the Monty Python musical.

The first Kay awards of the evening went to Connie Bools for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Bananas Shaunessy in “The House of Blue Leaves ”) and to Cody Watson as Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Matthew Mugg in “Doctor Dolittle”). The award for Best Actress in a Character Role was presented to Olivia Jarman (Polynesia in “Doctor Dolittle”), while the Best Actor in a Character Role Award went to Steve Austin (Mr. Tinsworthy in “9 to 5 ”) . Another “9 to 5” cast member, Lyndsay Thomas, was recognized as Best Newcomer Actress and Caleb Deal received the award as Best Newcomer Actor for “A Christmas Story”.
