Newton woman kidnapped, dies trying to escape

NEWTON -- A Newton woman was abducted, stabbed and later died after jumping from a car on US 321 on Wednesday morning.

Gastonia Police Sgt. Jimmy Arndt said Tabatha Spake Heavner of 2854 Rocky Ford Road, Newton, was taken from her home by Aaron Obedee Compton Jr., 49, of 477 Sunset Street, Granite Falls. Catawba County authorities said Compton broke out a window and climbed into Heavner’s home in Newton at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
