Man dies in Burke County fire

MORGANTON — A morning fire killed one man in a home on NC Highway 126 on Monday.

Burke County Fire Marshal Mike Long said the fire was reported at 6:36 a.m., and the caller said could see fire coming from under the eves of the house.

When firefighters arrived at the house at 1355 NC 126, they found the man inside and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Long said the fire was likely an accident and started in the bedroom.

Long said investigators had not found any smoke detectors in the home.

Oak Hill Fire and Rescue was the primary department at the scene. Lake James Volunteer Fire Department and Glen Alpine Volunteer Fire Department were also at the fire.
